KINUWESTYON ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon ang Public Attorney’s Office sa pagbuo nila ng sariling forensic unit na maituturing anyang duplication lang ng trabaho ng government investigative bodies.

Dahil dito, iginiit ni Drilon na ilipat na lamang sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) upang magamit sa kanilang crime laboratory ang P19.5 milyong budget para sa tanggapang ito ng PAO.

Binigyang-diin ni Drilon na walang proper authority at mandato ang PAO upang bumuo ng sarili nilang forensic unit para sa imbestigasyon at paghahain ng kaso partikular kaugnay sa dengvaxia-related deaths.

“In my view, your forensic laboratory has no basis in law. It is not authorized by your own charter. It is a mere duplication of the functions of our investigative bodies which have not been shown to be inefficient and incompetent,” saad ni Drilon.

Bukod sa hindi ito pinapayagan sa batas, may panganib ding dulot ang pagtatayo ng forensic unit ng PAO.

“The problem is, you want to be the NBI by putting up your forensic laboratory. Doctor ka na, pulis ka pa,” diin ni Drilon.

Ipinaliwanag ng senador na sa posibilidad na magkaroon ng conflicting forensic results ang mga government bodies, malalagay na sa alanganin ang pamamahala sa hustisya.

“I will propose at the appropriate time to remove the budget for the forensic laboratory from PAO and have it transferred to the NBI where it properly belongs, so it can augment its crime laboratory,” diin ni Drilon.
